Our story

With creativity and entrepreneurship we, Hilde and Koen, shape small-scale.

In 2009 we took over the parental company and we also started expanding by starting up with alpacas in addition to our cows.

We make the line between our company and the customers short through our webshop and farm shop. Because we like personal contact – 'that makes us happy' – and because it has a positive ecological and economic effect.

We work on a small scale and with care for nature.

Those are conscious choices. It has to do with our philosophy of life and our connection with nature.

The beauty of the landscape, the richness of the soil, our alpacas and our cows form the basis of our happiness in life. At the same time, we want to contribute through a nature-inclusive business.

The feed for our animals comes from our own fields, our animals get silage maize and grass, we also grow clover and sorghum for extra proteins and to avoid having to buy imported soy. Ecology, sustainability and safety are a high priority at our company.

In 2014 we expanded our company with a youth residence "De Blije Alpaca" where young and old can enjoy agricultural life up close. Here too, we focus on sustainability and achieved the Green Key.

We are also an experience farm and are happy to let schools and associations take a look behind the scenes.

Onze alpaca's

We have entered a different branch of livestock farming – a different sound.

The meadow is grazed and not only by our cows.

One glance at the alpaca, one pat on the thick fur, one look at some alpacas grazing… and you're sold.

Alpacas are extremely charming sociable animals from the Andes. A soft character in a body of the softest wool…

Alpaca Lokeren offers you the opportunity to surround yourself with these animals and are happy to provide you with more information.

Our cows are of the Belgian White Blue breed (BWB).

The Belgian White Blue is our national pride: a breed that was developed in 1989, tasty meat at a reasonable price and easy to breed. In short, the ideal cow.

You can recognize a Belgian white-blue at a glance: a white skin with blue or black spots, very muscular and impressive. Due to the absence of fat, the muscle mass is very firm.

The meat is flavorful and lean.

farm animals

In addition to our cows and alpacas, we also have smaller animals on our farm.

Our 2 kids : Elza and Anna.

Our German lop rabbits : Rosa, our French lop rabbit : Flap and our dwarf bunny : Pieter.

We must not forget our farm cats. Minoe, Isomo, Streep, Garfield, Jerry and Mouse

Our chickens, Tik, Tok, Tak, Tuk, give us fresh eggs every day and an alarm clock (the rooster) that should certainly not be missing on the farm.

.

Our crops and environment.

We sow, plant, maintain and harvest everything with an unlikely love

for what nature offers us and our crops use:

corn, sorghum, fodder beets, clover, grass on the meadows to graze

but also for hay bales and grass bales, for our own animals.

In our beautiful rustic environment there is also room for the small animals of the countryside.

such as the bees, hedgehogs, owls, swallows, etc.

animal welfare

animal welfare

The welfare of our alpacas, cows and farm animals is the most important part of our work. We spend every day (and many nights!) interacting with, caring for and working for our animals and the farm. They mean the world to us and once they are with us, they have a guaranteed home for life.

We adhere to strict rules about visits and activities at our company!

We do not walk with our animals for the following reasons:

* Alpacas do not like to be removed from the herd, nor do they like to be cuddled a lot.

* Too much human attention can lead to stress and physical discomfort in our alpacas.

* Stress can then trigger a changing appetite. as a result of which they can get diarrhoea, stomach infections or intestinal infections and their resistance decreases, resulting in death.

* They can become very scared, it leads to unrest in their herd and the ranking in their herd can change which in turn causes stress.

* They get hair loss, which makes them less protected in the winter and they get bald spots in their beautiful coat, which in turn can cause diseases such as mange. And for our company also a lower wool yield or wool of reduced quality.

* The stress can also cause an increase in blood pressure, blood sugar levels, palpitations, dilation of pupils and bronchi, etc.

We would like to introduce you to the alpaca. It just has to be in a way that the alpaca also chooses for it.

Walking is not a natural way to interact with animals.

A visit to our animals on the farm is no problem.

This way our alpacas can decide for themselves whether they feel like visiting that day or not.
