Alpacas are members of the camel family and originally come from the Andes Mountain Range. They are a single-hoofed species. Their coat is soft and woolly, and alpacas should be shorn once a year. If you approach them gently, they can become very affectionate.
There are two types of alpaca: the Suri and the Huacaya. Similar to horses, alpacas are called stallions, mares and foals. Alpacas are also very clean animals.
